You may share and adapt the material, but must give appropriate credit to the source, provide a link to the licence, and indicate if changes were made.</license-p></license></permissions><abstract><p>Study design and Objective: This was a cross- sectional hospital-based descriptive study aimed to assess the role of Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC) indiagnosis of the hepatic lesions in Iraqi patients&#13;
Material and Methods: During a period of six months, percutaneous fine needle aspirations, either blindly or under ultrasoundguidance__ampersandsignnbsp;, were performed preoperatively on 34 patients with hepatic lesions attended Mosul hospitals.&#13;
Results: Cytological diagnosis revealed 33 malignant lesions and one liver abscess. Diagnosis of all cases was confirmed by histopathological examination of tissue biopsies. The sensitivity, specificity, and overall accuracy of the technique were 100%.&#13;
Conclusion: FNAC of the liver has proved to bereliable, accurate, safe, economic, and can save the patient unnecessary surgical approach.&#13;
