You may share and adapt the material, but must give appropriate credit to the source, provide a link to the licence, and indicate if changes were made.</license-p></license></permissions><abstract><p>Introduction: Self-medication is an essential public health issue specifically, self-medication with antibiotics is adding to the antimicrobial resistance which has become a global threat. There is a necessity to assess and understand the self-medication practices particularly, the migrant workers as they are considered to be a vulnerable community in society. The study aimed to assess self-medication practices among the migrant workers and the objective was to understand the practices associated with self-medication among the migrant workers in Udupi Taluk, Karnataka. Material __ampersandsignamp; Methods: A present study was a community-based cross-sectional study conducted in Udupi Taluk and 382 migrant workers were interviewed using a validated questionnaire. Data was entered and analyzed using IBM SPSS version 20. Results: The prevalence of self-medication was found to be 68.8% 263 of (382). The majority of the participants reported that pharmacy (88.6%) is the primary source of self-medication. The majority of the participants mentioned their symptoms to pro-cure the medicines (70%). The majority of the participants were practicing self-medication for cough (24.7%) followed by fever (20.9%). Among these factors, gender and daily wage were found to be statistically significant (p value__ampersandsignlt;0.05). The practice of self-medication was found to be higher in males (39.5%) as compared to females (29.3%). Conclusion: The study suggests that there is a pressing need to conduct an awareness program for migrant workers and they need to be aware of the nearest health care facility available to them.&#13;
