They are usually considered the ideal treatment for tooth loss. The success of a dental implant is based on patient and implant factors. Patient factors such as oral hygiene condition, a medical condition can influence the outcome of the dental implant. Objectives: The present study was done to evaluate the dental implant failure rate in medically compromised patients over a healthy individual. Methods: This retrospective study included 55 medically compromised and 40 healthy patients of both genders who underwent dental implants 5 years ago. Quantity of bone loss around the implant over 1mm of bone loss in the first year and over 0.3 mm bone loss every subsequent year were measured as failures. Results: There was 16 (27.6 %) in group I (medically compromised), and 3 (0.05 %) in group II (healthy patients) showed dental implant failures. In the first year, in the group, I, mean bone loss around the implant was 1.18 mm and 0.4 mm in group II. Up to 5 years, in the group, I, mean bone loss around the implant was 2.5 mm and 1.3 mm in group II. The difference found to be significant (P __ampersandsignlt; 0.05). Conclusion: Higher failure rate was found in diabetes patients among the medically compromised group.&#13;
