Methods:__ampersandsignnbsp;__ampersandsignnbsp;The study was performed on C57BL/6J Male mice aged 6-8 weeks. Control was fed with normal diet and the other 3 groups were fed with commercial hyperlipidemic diet. Adipose tissue markers Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptorgamma, CCAAT/enhancer-binding proteins-beta, 4-Hydroxy-2-nonenal, Thioredoxin, Tumour necrosis factor-?, adiponectin and
leptin were estimated using adipose tissue by ELISA.
Results:__ampersandsignnbsp;__ampersandsignnbsp;The diet-induced hyperlipidemic C57BL/6J Male mice showed a marked reduction in the levels of transcription factors, oxidative stress markers and pro-inflammatory markers when treated with Terminalia chebula (Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma (P__ampersandsignlt;0.001), CCAAT/enhancer-bindingproteins-beta (P__ampersandsignlt;0.001), 4-Hydroxy-2-nonenol (P__ampersandsignlt;0.001), Thioredoxin (P__ampersandsignlt;0.01)__ampersandsignnbsp;and Tumour necrosis factor-?__ampersandsignnbsp;(P__ampersandsignlt;0.001)__ampersandsignnbsp;which was more effective than Gallic Acid (Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma (0.05), CCAAT// enhancer-binding proteins-beta (P__ampersandsignlt;0.01), 4-Hydroxy-2-nonenal (P__ampersandsignlt;0.01), Thioredoxin (P__ampersandsignlt;0.05)__ampersandsignnbsp;and Tumour necrosis factor-?__ampersandsignnbsp;(P__ampersandsignlt;0.01)__ampersandsignnbsp;and an elevation in adipokines-__ampersandsignnbsp;adiponectin and leptin in Terminalia chebula treated group-__ampersandsignnbsp;adiponectin (P__ampersandsignlt;0.001) and leptin (P__ampersandsignlt;0.001)__ampersandsignnbsp;was seen which was more significant than Gallic Acid-__ampersandsignnbsp;adiponectin (P__ampersandsignlt;0.01)__ampersandsignnbsp;and leptin (0.05)__ampersandsignnbsp;when compared to group II HFD.
Conclusion:__ampersandsignnbsp;__ampersandsignnbsp;The study indicates the efficacy of Terminalia chebula as a potent antihyperlipidemic herbal drug which helps in controlling the increased adiposity by regulating the key markers in adipose tissue.
