Pefloxacin (20mg/kg), was administered orally to three groups of albino rats
fed on standard pellet feeds, 50 % and 100 % unripe plantain respectively. Blood samples were taken at pre-application and at 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0, 6.0, 8.0, 10.0, 12.0 and 24.0 h post-application from retro-orbital plexus of the animal using micro-capillary technique. Ultraviolet spectrophotometric method__ampersandsignnbsp;was used to determine pefloxacin concentration in plasma samples. Feeds with 50 % and 100 % unripe plantain respectively, gave significant increase (P__ampersandsignlt;0.05) in the mean maximum plasma concentration (Cmax), mean area under the plasma concentration-time curve (AUC) as compared to those obtained for standard pellet feeds alone. No significant change in the mean time to reach maximum concentration (Tmax) was observed in all the tests. The results suggest that the total absorption of pefloxacin could be enhanced by unripe plantain.
