The contents of total phenol and ortho-dihydroxy phenols were increased throughout the sampling period of the disease compared to healthy plants. Phenylalanine ammonia lyase (PAL), Polyphenol oxidase (PPO) and Peroxidase (PEO) activities were also increased at different stages of disease development. The results showed that the changes in the levels of phenols, ortho-dihydroxy phenols and the enzymes like PAL, PPO and PEO form an important part in the resistance mechanism of the groundnut plants against infection with S.rolfsii.
